Did you miss some fun last night! We danced our hearts out playing Dance, Dance Revolution. I even tried it a few times and sadly did not do very well, but there were several teens setting records. Very fun!

What are you listening to?

Good afternoon-

I was just talking to someone about music and it made me wonder what teens are listening to. I know I've been playing my KT Tunstall CD a ton in my car and Jack Johnson too. Send me a message and let me know what your listening to at home, on CD, on the radio or what's on your i-pod.

By the way, we had a great time creating some cool duct tape wallets last night. Want to make your own at home? Check out this site for a simple instruction plan along with other fun stuff to make. The tape is pretty inexpensive and comes in lots of colors.

Coming up next week: Teen Summer Reading Book Chat on Thursday, July 6 at 6:30 p.m. Come to talk about what you are reading this summer. Summer Reading List books or something just for fun. Snacks will be served....hope to see you then!

Creative Writing Workshop beginning Saturday, November 5

I wanted to let you know that the library will be offering
Creative Writing Workshops on Saturdays beginning November 5 at 2:00-3:00 p.m.
This program is open to students in grades 6-8. Beth Lisi, EWG alumus will be teaching new techniques and cool new themes will be explored each week!

The Library's Teen Advisory Group will meet on Thursday, October 13 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Help redesign the teen space, plan programs and have snacks. New members are always welcome!

I think Joss Stone's Album Mind, Body and Soul is amazing! I can't stop playing it in my car.

Live Clue@ the Library

Hello Everyone-

Hope your summer is going great! I have been super busy planning and presenting teen programs for our teen summer reading program. We had Live Clue last night, which was really cool, except for a few flaws in the plan...but all in all it was great!

We are going to play Live Clue again next week with a little bit of a twist! We will also have Pictionary, Scattergories and other board games. Plus, refreshments! So, if you are looking for a place to cool off and have fun....come to the library!

WANTED: Teen Volunteers

Hi all-

Wondering what to do this summer? Looking for a fun way to pass the time?
Why not volunteer at the library?! I'm going to need some help working with younger kids this summer doing story hours, making crafts and playing games outside. So if you like working with kids please pick up an application at the circulation desk. I'll fill you in on the details.

And of course not everyone likes working with kids so there are plenty of other opportunities for you to help us out this summer. Send me an email or stop in to learn more.

Keep a look out for all of our teen activities and programs coming up this summer. Sign ups for the summer reading programs begin on June 14, come see what its all about. Another Event in May

Hi all-

We are having another After Hours at the Library on Friday, May 13 @ 6:00 p.m. We will have snacks (of course!), games and a craft. Bring a friend or two!

We also have a Refer a Friend Program. Come visit the library, pick up some cards, hand them out to your friends and have them bring the cards back to the library. Your friend will recieve a sweet treat and you'll both have your names entered into our raffle. The winner(s) will be announced on Friday, May 13. Want more info? Send me a message.

Spy High by A.J. Butcher (books 1-3 in the series)
A cool series about high school students who are trained as secret agents.

The Truth About Forver by Sarah Dessen
She is one of my favorite authors and I really enjoyed this book.
It's about a girl named Macy who instead of being stuck working at the local library (I don't think that is all that badf!) for the summer, decides to work for a catering company. She meets some interesting people and learns a lot about herself.

The Sea of Trolls by Nancy Farmer
This one came recommended by a fellow teen librarian. I haven't read it, but click on the link and read the review.

Girl, 15, Charming But Insane by Sue Limb
This is the next one on my list! I just looked at the link and it makes the book look really good.

My Not So Horrible Time at the Hippie Hotel by Rosemary Graham.

One of Those Hideous Books Where the Mother Dies by Sonya Sones. I have read Sones' other titles: What My Mother Doesn't Know and Stop Pretending: What Happened When My Big Sister Went Crazy. Both very good verse novels, so if you like poetry try one!

Also, check out teenreads for more great books and reviews!!

Wanted: Teen Advisors

The library needs your help!

If you want: your voice to be heard,
to make the library a cool place for teens
and want to earn volunteer hours,
why not become a teen advisor!

If you are in grades 7-12 and want to help us order new teen materials, plan programs for teens, decorate our teen space and learn about other volunteer opportunites stop into the library and pick up an application. It will only take an hour per month of your time, you'll get to meet new people and of course, have snacks. So....what are you waiting for!

Applications are available at the circulation desk or you can email me and I will send one to you. If you have any questions, let me know.

Read anything good lately?

I thought I would let you know what I've been reading lately...

I just read be more chill by Ned Vizzini. A very interesting and thought provoking read. Here is a bit to start with....A high school student named Jeremy is sure he is a total dork, until he swallows a small computer (called a "squip"). The squip tells him how to dress, act and to be cool. Jeremy suddenly becomes very popular, but there are also some strange and scary results. Check out the link above to learn more about Ned, his work and the "squipiverse".

Another interesting read, Dead Girls Don't Write Letters written by Gail Giles pretty much left me wanting more. This is the story of Sunny, a fourteen year old girl whose sister Jazz accidental dies. Her Mom and Dad aren't coping with it very well and then they receive a mysterious letter from Jazz saying she is coming home to visit. The mystery starts to unravel and your left wondering what is really going on. If you like mystery, check this one out.

First Teen Movie Night

Hello All!
Just wanted to let you know we will be showing 50 First Dates starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore on Friday, March 18th at 7:00 p.m. All students in grades 7 and up are invited to attend. I know it's not the newest movie out there, but I thought it might bring you in and then you can suggest the next movie. Popcorn and drinks will be provided, but feel free to bring a snack to share.

We will also be hosting a craft on Wednesday, March 23rd at 6:30 p.m. Check back soon and I will let you know what it is....

I was also asked how I pick new materials for teens. Here is how (the long version): I look through professional journals like VOYA (Voice of Youth Advocates), Library Journal and School Library Journal for reviews. I go to the bookstores to see what's new: books, CDs, new DVD releases and magazines. I also take suggestions from other librarians, teens, teachers and basically anyone who offers their help.

So..be sure to tell me what you are looking for and I will do my best to get it here for you.

Where are you?

Just wondering where all the teens of Exeter are hiding. I don't see very many of you coming into the library and want to know how I can get more of you in here. I'm trying to plan programs for the next couple of months and need some of your ideas. I'd like to do a movie night, but need an idea of what you would like to see. We have a big screen, projector and of course popcorn and snacks. So, send me an idea of what you would like to see and I will put something together. All other ideas are also welcome! And if you are a parent of a teenager, please let them know I am looking for ideas. Hope to see you soon!

Hello and welcome to the Exeter Public Library!

I want to invite you all to stop into the library and find out what is going on for teens. We have a great collection of YA books, it's small but always growing. We also have magazines, new DVD's, videos and CD's you might want to check out. If you need a library card, it's very easy to get.

WANTED: your ideas for programs! I need your input for program ideas for teens in grades 7 and up. So if you have any ideas you want to share, please let me know what what they are.

Upcoming event: Candy Making Wednesday, February 9 6:30-7:30 p.m. If you like chocolate, then stop in to make some of your very own!
